| The hairy frogfish (Antennarius striatus) is found in subtropical ocean waters. The spines help camouflage the fish from predators and, too often, divers hoping to catch a glimpse. Frogfish do not move as typical fish do. Rather, they “walk” on pectoral fins by slowly hopping, or, for quicker movements, take in large quantities of water by mouth, and blast it out of the gills. This gives a quick, jet-like push essential for catching food [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |
