Three baby hedgehogs rescued after being abandoned behind old washing machine

A couple who were clearing up their garage were stunned when they came across this prickly trio huddling for warmth behind their washing machine.

Keiley Tuck and her husband Lee were shocked to find three tiny abandoned baby hedgehogs in their garage in Weston-super-Mare.
The couple had been moving their old washing machine when they came across the three spiky creatures curled up in dead leaves trying to keep warm.

Abandoned: The three baby hedgehogs were found behind a washing machine in Weston-super-Mare after being left there by their mother

The three baby hedgehogs had adorable blonde spines and were each so small they could all fit together into the palm of an adult hand.
Mr Tuck said the couple put the babies in a box and waited hopefully for her mother to return, but had to send them to a wildlife home when their parent did not reappear.

Mr Tuck, a computer programmer, said: 'Sadly she did not turn up so we delivered the babies to Secret World Wildlife Rescue centre, who had been giving us advice by phone.'
Secret World founder Pauline Kidner said they are now being fed on a special milk formula at the centre in East Huntspill, Somerset, until they are old enough to be freed back into the wild.

Other end of the scale: The plight of the three babies is in stark contrast to Roly Poly, another hedgehog at Secret World who last week tipped the scales at twice the normal size for a hedgehog.
