Most Goldeneye ducks we see in the UK arrive each autumn from Russia and Scandinavia. They're a long way from home but late winter is when they start their mating rituals. The gentleman duck puts on a dramatic display, throwing his head back and pointing his bill skywards in an effort to attract a lady duck.
