Hedgehog sanctuary in weedkiller warning

A HEDGEHOG sanctuary is warning gardeners of the dangers weedkiller can pose to wildlife.

Christine Boelrijk, co-founder of the Hedgehog Haven, has issued the alert after two hogs were found dead in a one week.

Volunteers from the haven, which has re-homing centres in Colchester and Frinton, were called to a dead hedgehog in the middle of a lawn.

Both the homeowner and gardener were shocked at finding the creature, and had checked the weedkiller to make sure it was organic and suitable for gardens with pets and children.


The haven suggests gardeners use vinegar and salt as a wildlife-friendly alternative to weedkiller.
