Meet Prickle. Prickle is a female hog that found herself out in the day and had wandered into Laura's (one of our Founders) back garden. Thankfully she knew that hedgehogs shouldn't be out in the day at all and is a very good indicator that something is wrong and the hedgehog needs help. Laura called me (Emma) and we discussed the best route for us to take with their little one and decided a specialised hedgehog rehab sanctuary was the way to go. Several were tried to no avail or we were given information we knew was the wrong course of action and Laura kept trying until Spikey Critter's Hedgehog Care came to Prickle's aid and offered to take her in and check her over.

Prickle spent the night at Laura's being fed, watered and monitored until she could be transported to the sanctuary the next day. Huge thank you to Ellen, one of our volunteers at SRAN, for offering to do the drive and get this little hog the help she needed and it's just as well she chose Laura's garden and she knew what to do as upon arriving at the sactuary Prickle was tested and checked over and it was discovered she has Coccidia, which are protozoan parasites which live in the gut and can be fatal if left untreated. Laura and Ellen saved this little ones life - Well Done Girls <3

Prickle is settling in well at the sactuary and on a course of antibiotics, rehydrating and eating well. The sactuary are a little suspicious she may even be pregnant, so watch this space!

Our first wildlife rescue - not quite the expansion we had in mind, but every animal is welcome and we will always do our best to ensure it recieved the same level of professional and expert care as we would expect to give our domestic animals.

Please pop along to Spikey Critter's Hedgehog Care Facebook Page for more information on the work they do and even updates on Prickles and their other residents and show your support - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
