| [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]It’s that time of the year again when many of our native species are beginning to hibernate. A popular species amongst those hibernating is the hazel dormouse. These adorable little mammals are agile climbers and as they are mainly nocturnal are very rarely seen. Living in deciduous woodland, hedgerows and dense scrub, they can spend their entire lives up in the branches without ever touching the ground. The hazel dormouse will eat buds, hazelnuts, berries and insects. Dormice, their breeding sites and their resting places are fully protected; interaction with them is prohibited without a licence. So we ask that if you see one please do not disturb it in anyway.
