as we have had a lot of support off our skunk friends...i thought we could put a fact post up on skunks...
Skunks can run at 10mph/16kph over short distances.
Some species of Skunk will do handstands to appear larger.
In some cases Skunks will do the “Skunk Shuffle”, shuffling backwards, hissing, growling and stomping their feet.
Skunks will only spray as a last resort, as they are not overly fond of the smell themselves.
It takes up to 10 days to reproduce the chemical required for spraying.
Though capable of making their own burrows, Skunks are opportunistic.
Wild Skunks will adopt an empty den of another animal.
Skunks will share their burrows with other skunks, raccoons and rabbits.
The Great Horned Owl is one of a Skunks few natural predators. Due in part to their lack of a good sense of smell.
Skunks babies usually arive around May/June.
The gestation period is about 62-66 days.
Each litter contains between 4 to 7 kits.
Skunks have 1 litter per year.
When born they are no bigger than a mouse.
