Supporting the Epping Forest Strimmer Campaign!

The strimmer... a machine used with the simple intention of cutting long grass. But before you pick up that strimmer, have you read the facts? Realised the danger? Please read this page and avoid being a mechanical menace.

Hedgehogs are maimed and even killed because of strimmers and lawnmowers.

When the people decide to strim the long grass, sleeping, nesting or hibernating Hedgehogs don't run away from the noise, they curl up into a tight ball, which is no protection against such a machine. They may sustain serious injuries or even die in excruciating pain, or from a serious, nasty infection.

This is all because of someone who did not check the grass - Hedgehog rescue centres all over Britain are getting sick and tired of this and so am I. I'm not the only one who's had to witness such suffering first hand.

Check long grass

with a hand or

foot

before you

commence!

Look what strimmers do! *Note* Some of these images are very graphic and may cause upset and distress.

I need to get the message across - and therefore, I cannot hide some of gory outcomes that strimmers and lawnmowers have caused.

This is a photo of a Hedgehog that was sliced through the back.

This is a very distressing image of a Hedgehog that had its body tore clean open by a strimmer. Needless to say, this one did not make it.

Write To Strimmer Manufacturers & Stores Many people have been writing to Strimmer Manufacturers & Stores.

What the idea is, is to encourage the Manufacturers & stores to put a clear warning sticker on the actual Strimmer so that when the people are about the commence, they will be reminded of Hedgehogs and other wildlife.

Please could you write a letter to one of the addresses below, and help save lives:

This is Norma, she was found with half of her side hanging off wit a baby following her around. The six inch chunk of her side had to be removed but unfortunately it had been festering too long and her skin was very infected. She developed a large abcess under the wound site which had to be opened back up and flushed daily.

Nomar needed three operations, sveral different antibiotics and intensive care. her vet bills alone reached around £250 which is huge considering I only get charged a discounted rate.

I didn't take a photo of her strimmer injury as it was too distressing, the photo above is when the flesh had been removed and sewn up but she had been re-opened due to the abcess.

I can understand about the photo being too distressing, the ones above are bad enough - hopefully people will take note and check before strimming.

Yep, Norma is now one kilo and loves to bite people. She's going to be one of the first into the pre-release pens in the next couple of days. She's a fighter. Hogs amaze me, with the injuries she had, ahuman with similar would have just rolled over and died.
