Photos will be posted tomorrow but this evening I had a young wildie brought to my home as they know I have pygmy hedghogs, removed 8 ticks from her and rang Virginia at Warrington and arranged to take her over earlier this evening - she has the most adorable face ever, even when removing the ticks (did get heads and all) she didn't bite or attempt to bit - Virginia looked her over, removed one more tick and syringe fed her - she weighs 226 grams and as always, she asked what I wanted to call her - as she has Keith in, an earlier rescue, she now has Nikki!!

Handed over our donation of £ 100.00 and she is over the moon - will help stock up her medicine cabinet for winter and she will come to a show in Cheshire when we arrange it.

Nice warm glowing feeling at the moment

Well done, another life saved. That 100 pounds will no doubt save another ten hogs! Good move.

Virginia has just text me - our Nikki is riddled with worms - she is having treatment and being syringe fed as well - I hope the donation makes a difference as this is what I want to achieve through the forum, help out the wildie carers as the work they do is invaluable - hopefully we can help out more as we get to more fund raisers - I always give Vi a personal donation when I drop off any wildies and I know that the money will go towards paying for their meds/food - you are on our list as well.

Update on Nikki

I have just spoken to Virginia and she has given me an update on Nikki - she was riddled with worms and worm eggs and has had treatment to get rid of these for her - one of the side effects was that she lost a lot of weight and had to be syringe fed to keep her strength up - it has not been an easy job and for a little while it was touch and go - anyway, with Virginia's care and dedication, she is up to the weight that she was taken in at 220 grams and for the last two days has been eating more independantly although she is still having regular top ups from Virginia - I am going over to see her tomorrow and hopefully shall be able to get some up to date pictures.

On another note, Virginia told me that Gill at Thatcham had a rescue brought in to her - some children had been using the hedgehog as a football and they had placed it in the gutter to run over it on their scooters - sadly the hedgehog was too badly injured to survive.

Update on Nikki

It has been touch and go with this little girl, after intensive treatment for worms and a course of anti-biotics, she is finally gaining weight and I was lucky enough to catch up with her today and have a hold - she is such a wriggle monster so please excuse the wobbly photos

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

She will not be released and will remain in the care of Viginia until next spring when she will be big enough to be released back into the wild.
