How to tell if a hedgehog needs help

HEDGEHOGS ARE NOCTURNAL SO IF YOU SEE ONE (SMALL OR LARGE) OUT IN THE DAYTIME IT IS USUALLY BECAUSE IT IS EITHER SICK OR INJURED, IT MAY APPEAR OBVIOUSLY UNWELL OR IT MAY SEEM OK BUT IT DEFINITELY NEEDS CHECKING OUT BY A CARER OR A VET.

Using gloves or towels pick up the hedgehog and place it in a highsided box with a hot water bottle or plastic pop bottle filled with WARM not hot water which should be wrapped in a cloth or towel, make sure the hedgehog has room to get off the bottle if it becomes too warm, cover the hedgehog with a cloth or towel and either phone a carer for advice or take the hedgehog to a vet, DO NOT GIVE THE HEDGEHOG MILK TO DRINK

PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE A HEDGEHOG OUT IN THE DAYTIME, IT NEEDS YOUR HELP.

As winter approaches we need to be watching out for the little Autumn juveniles that were born too late to reach survival weight, from end of October any hedgehog smaller than a large grapefruit seen out after dark also needs help as they will not survive the winter.

Follow guidelines from above and seek advice from a carer.
