PostSubject: Heating Ideas   Heating Ideas Icon_minitimeSun May 04, 2014 1:03 pm

Just wanted to pick the brains of those who may have some ideas, my hog room has a huge floor space and Ive made it so they can run freely pretty much anywhere, but Im having temperature issues as its literally on the floor its so much cooler than where my stacks are.  I have some girls I would be happy to let live out but worried about temp, although its maintained at about 24c on the floor its only about 18c.

Any ideas of what I could use to heat the actual floor, I may consider heated flooring in the future buts its a bit expensive currently, I do have a couple of heat pads in the sleeping area, but cant find anything that may produce large areas of heat on the actual floor.

Ive inc a couple of pics to show what Ive done

Shall get my thinking cap on - I used to have a carpet runner in the conservatory which I then put newspaper on top of - plenty of it, I used a calor gas fire to warm the area for them - will scour my wholesale books as well x

Would dangly che's work?
Or the outside halogen heaters you get for the walls, like in pubs, but aimed at the floor? Don't know if that would work or be safe?

It needs to be something to heat the floor - apart from heat mats I am struggling to find anything as most things are heaters or CHE's, shall keep looking x

PostSubject: Microwave mats?   Heating Ideas Icon_minitimeMon Sep 08, 2014 10:18 pm

Hello, I will keep the house reasonably warm but if we get a cold patch in the winter was wondering on the best heat source. The ceramic heaters I am worried may get too hot/burn. Has anyone used the Snugglesafe microwave mats?

I found some on amazon

The reviews are mixed and I was a bit worried when one said it leaked but I assumed that was user error

I have hand warmers and my hoggie will be kept out of drafts and in a vivarium

The ceramic heat emmiters are great but will need to be attatched to a thermastat. The thermastat once set at the desired temp will stop it getting to hot..
the snugglesafe and hand warmers should only be used for transporting to vets etc or
in an emergency...the snugglesafes can get really hot when first microwaved.
some people use heat mats.but i havn't used one so can't really give advice on them.
i use an oil free rad as all mine are in one room so it's easier for me to
just keep the one room warm.xx

The ceramic heat emitters are fab - just as Nikki has said.

I use heat mats now since I have moved and all my hoggies are fine and I do have the windows open to let some fresh air in x
