Think mine are 12 watt you will need a thermostat anyway Netty ... which will switch the mat off . I tend to only have my mats on in the winter months ... the basic rule is if you can sit in your house comfortable with just a t shirt on your hogs should be fine .x

mine is 12w...with a thermostat....and like lou, only turned on if really cold...

I do have heatmats as back ups if needed but my room is heated by the central heating and has a back up fan heater just in case
