| For most hedgehogs a wheel is a must. Just keep a few things in mind.
1. The wheel must have a solid running surface.
Hedgehog feet will slip through gaps. And even if the gaps are too small for their feet to slip through, it can still cause sores and other injuries. Wire wheels must be modified.
2. Hedgehogs go on the go.
It is a well known fact that hedgehogs like to defecate while on the move. Wheels can get really messy, and if you don't clean them your hedgehog will get just as messy. You have to clean them on a regular basis. This makes wood a bad choice for wheels (It sticks to wood like krazy glue).
Wheels squeak - Petroleum jelly can cure this, and you don't have to worry about your hedgehog eating any of it either.

| Great post Helen .. most of the members on here like Larrys wheels which we have imported , the only other wheel i use is the flying saucer and that is because Nelson runs better on there with his foot .x | |

| I never thought about using petroleum jelly. I suppose it's much safer than the WD45 that I use! I wash my wheels every day and so I'm finding that my nuts have gone a tad rusty.... Paaaardon Fab post Helen xoxox | |

| I have a mix of wheels,
Most of my hoggies now have Larry's wheels but I do have flying saucers which I let the nursing mum's use from 5 weeks and then I have silent spinners and savic wheels in the runs.

| My nuts haven't been used much yet so are like new - although they are getting plenty of action now so it's only a matter of time before they need some lubrication, hehe! | |

| I just run the hot water over mine and have a special hoggie sponge (just a usual yellow dishwashing sponge that's got the White rough side). As the water gets hot, it melts the poop away and then I just bleach the sink when I'm finished. I just use either hand wash or washing up liquid to clean the wheels. Simples xoxox | |
