The Shepreth Wildlife Conservation Charity (SWCC) has been tirelessly fundraising to get the project off the ground over the last year and raised more than £500 at a cheese and wine event for friends, trustees and volunteers on Saturday evening.
In two weeks, the shiny new haven will be open and available to treat injured hedgehogs.
Natasha Ennew, an SWCC trustee who works as an education officer at the park, said: “It was a great night, we finally felt like we’d done it – it was very uplifting.
“We enjoyed three hedgehog cakes and the park’s artist raised money by selling her paintings.
“Everyone is looking forward to doing their bit to help the country’s declining hedgehog population. We will track the hedgehogs when we release them so we can monitor their progress.”
More than 100 people attended the launch night which included an acoustic performer and an entertaining wizard.
Last year the hedgehog hospital, which was running from an old Wendy house in the grounds of the park, helped 201 baby hedgehogs brought in by the public.
