Like the goths of the spider world this species goes out of its way to avoid light. Cave spiders spend the majority of their lives in total darkness.
As the name suggests their natural environment is in caves, but you can also sometimes find them in cellars, tunnels or sewers, under manhole covers, and a few peple have reported finding them inside their kettle barbeques.
The cave spider is one of the largest spiders in the U.K. with a head and body length of up to 15mm.
