| If hedgehogs do not get 12‐14 hours of light per day they can become ill or attempt hibernation (a life threatening condition.) In the summer, natural light is usually sufficient (do not place your hedgehog’s cage in direct sunlight as this can lead to overheating.) However, in the winter you will probably need supplemental light. Many owners keep a light on from 7am to 9pm. Additional lighting after 9pm is fine too as your hedgehog would normally be awake at this time anyways. | |

| European hedgehogs drop their body mechanisms so that everything runs on minimal - would have thought they could do the same x | |

| Most creatures go into hibernation during the winter months - hedgehogs from a different country with different weather conditions would probably not need to do the same as there would be a supply of food all year round - winter months food can be scare in colder climates which is why they hibernate. | |
