PROBLEM:
Hedgehogs become ensnared in netting, resulting in severe injuries and death.
In most cases, a limb such as the Hedgehog's hind leg is caught in the netting. When this happens, the Hedgehog will attempt to pull itself free, causing the netting to tighten further around the Hedgehog which embeds itself into the Hedgehog's skin. The Hedgehog will continue to twist and pull until a wound is created, which is in immidiate danger of becoming infected.
On some occasions, the Hedgehog may eventually pull itself free of the netting having sustained serious injuries. Hedgehogs are found dragging themselves around during the day in desperate search of food, having starved for several nights due to being ensnared in netting.
SOLUTION:
Ensure that netting, such as football goal netting is lifted off the ground when it is not in use. This will allow Hedgehogs to pass under the netting without becoming ensnared.
