Here I have uploaded some of my pictures of baby Alfie. He is a cinnamon colour but this may change slightly. Mum is Cinnamon, and dad champagne colour. Mum does have pinto patch too.

He is teeny tiny - what does he weigh?

Have you got a nest box/sleeping box in his zoozone - hoggies do like somewhere to go to sleep in private and he would benefit from a box.

Look forward to more photos

Yes he is teeny. He is the runt of his litter. All the others were a lot bigger than him, but hes eating really well, running around, and being very good. yes he has a fleece puch and an igloo box that he sleeps in.

He looks sparse of spikes in the photo, but thats on his head, everywhere else hes ok. I think he may be quilling.

Not sure what he weighs at the moment. I shall weigh him when he wakes up.

I'm not the best on weights, but if he's 7 weeks, 120g is on the very low side of normal. You haven't given him a wheel have you? If so remove it as he needs to be bulking up, not loosing more weight. He does look very tiny for his age.

this is a pic of inca's back whilst she's been quilling...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

lots of quills!!!
he does look a little sparse... if you are worried about the lack of quills try putting him on a bit of fleece and brush his quills... you might see mites fall off him... it's treatable so dont worry Smile

glad he is settling in well, hopefully no mites or allergies xxx

Kirsty i have to be honest i would be a little concerned about his lack of spines and weight ...Runts normally catch up as soon as they are weaned on to a good varied diet he is very small . If you inbox me your email i will send you a diet sheet of do's and don'ts . If he was mine i would get him checked out at the vet .

Josie has posted a pic of one of my babies who she has who is at present quilling you can see she is a mass of spines .. you don't loose them you gain more as the baby ones push the old ones out . They are about the same age x

Well he was a lot smaller than the others when I got him as he was the runt. I have brushed his quills and there are no mites. And he isn't scratching.

I will remove his wheel. I have given him a variety of chicken, meal worms, banana, peas and his biscuits to see what he likes.

I will send you my email add.

He seems himself and very lively.... I'm worried now by what you have said!

Xxx

I can of coursse send you a good diet sheet . We have to be honest with you , as its in the best interest of the hoglet .
Most larger litters will have a smaller baby like Cathy has had 5 babies and Bob is smaller then the rest but he will catch up when he has being weaned by mom on to biscuits and you shouldn't be able to tell that he is smaller then his brothers and sisters . Good diet will help him put on the weight ... as for the spines if your not seeing mites . do u have some more pictures of him .x Try not to worry we are here to help .

Have you got a good exotic pet vet in your area? You should have found a vet before purchasing. I would personally go and get him checked out ASAP, just to be on the safe side. You need to make sure that the vet surgery know about APH as not all vets do. I contacted my local vets and they referred me to another practice 20 miles away that specialises and they were really good.

I will forward Lou your e-mail address for you x

hi kirsty.. try not to worry, everyone on here is very experianced with hoggies and when something dosn't look quite right they will try to help and advise anyway they can.
maybe its worth treating him for mites as a precaution. they can pick them up from mum as sometimes when they have a litter they have a bloom. also some mites are internal and are not visable to the eye. xx

you can do it yourself with a spot on called xeno mini 50..or the vet can give you stronghold which is perscription only..might be worth the vet visit thou, at least he can check him over and put your mind at rest..x
