Well my children all have had rabbits at some time . The newest member to our family is Burdock who was bred by Tayer .. he is a black Otter Lop .. and he is beautiful .. I personally feel it was much better to get him off a breeder as Burdock is very tame not scratchy at all and is litter trained . Our pet shop rabbit who is sadly no longer with us didn't like to be handle . I would say baby , easy to keep , and i recommend having them neutered or spayed Elle this is my experience with rabbits .

Guinea pigs make awesome pets for children we have three Rugny , Sugar, and Princess Pop Socks and my youngest gets great pleasure out of all three .. they do need to be bought in pairs though ..x

Hope this helps .x

hey elle, yeah what lou says...lol

i had my first litter about 5months ago and both mum n dad came from a big breeder close to me....they are show top quality pedigree mini lops and they produced mighty fine bunnies....all bunnies were handled by me and my 3 year old daughter from the day they were born...so they were uber friendly....so friendly they wont run away when you go near them, and follow you where ever you went.

dont buy from a pet shop, as i have a pet shop bunny and he wont let me go near him and he kicks and scratches if i hold him...nasty boy.

iv just paired my bunnies, so hopefully in about 2 and a half weeks she will have bunnies.

plenty of pics of my 1st litter if you look back in the small animal section...lol

most often or not a rabbit will go in 1 part of the cage, what ever the case...i put a tray with wooden pellets and change it every other day or a few days....they do poo while they hop sometimes, so i sweep up every day.

apparently a bunny will poo in and around their cage/home to mark its his territory...!
my bucks free run the out house, so they have a litter tray and a hay bed...my doe will have a run on the patio every day.

they eat mostly unlimited hay, and a hand full of pellets at the evening to fill them up n out, and fresh veg twice a week..like carrots, broccoli and sometimes cabbage.

Have just put some piccies on of Frankie Pudding for you x

With her being so fluffy, I tend to use the hay cakes as she doesn't get as messed up with these as loose hay.

i would say it depends on the rabbit and the child! i wouldnt recommend a rabbit for a very young child... despite their appearance it is not often you will find a rabbit who likes being picked up. as prey animals rabbits who are lifted from the ground will often struggle, or they will just become submissive and stay still, which is quite stressful for them. there is always an exception to the rule though. they can and should be handled however, so they can bond with you and also so you can administer meds etc easily if they fall ill...
it is best to keep rabbits in pairs, in the wild they live in a group... i am a hypocrite though, as buster lives on his own (due to being bullied, and also now as he has snuffles it would be irresponsible of me to subject another rabbit to a contagious disease)
as tay said, rabbits are very clean animals, they will only pee and poop in the same place, and once you know where this is you can just pop a litter tray there and clean it out daily.
rabbits need unlimited water and also unlimited hay. complete rabbit pellets are the best to feed as they prevent selective feeding so they get all the nutrients they need, but they dont need a lot of these, an eggcup full is enough. the majority of their diet MUST be made up of hay-fibre. exercise obvs is a must.
as said before, always neuter your bun.
grooming and nail clipping... im trying to think of stuff i have left out! lots and LOTS of toys!
vaccinations for VHD, myxi...
rabbit breeders can account for their linege and usually ensure a healthy bun... i learnt my lesson buying mine from a pet shop and he has cost me literally thousands in vet bills as he has problems associated with in-breeding. i love him though!
if you want one why not try looking in a rescue, they often have bonded pairs looking for homes and they will be neutered already, if you tell them what you are looking for they can help you find the right buns for you
hope i've helped Very Happy xxx
