A HEDGEHOG saved from being thrown around by a gang of children has died.
A group was spotted playing with the animal on a playing field by Medway Road in Culcheth last Tuesday.
Jodie Price, aged 12, went to check, saw it was a hedgehog, and managed to grab the animal.
A spokesman for Warrington Hedgehog Rescue, said: “Jodie’s granddad went to look for the gang while grandma Heather then rang Warrington Hedgehog Rescue.”
Virginina Jones who founded and runs Warrington Hedgehog rescue started to look after the hedgehog who she christened Walter, hand feeding him.
She said: “He was such a handsome mature hog with slightly ginger spikes but after seven days of syringe feeding and constant monitoring, Walter had to be put to sleep due to the severe brain damage and head trauma that the group had caused him.”
