REBECCA GOING MAD
She just wont settle and is very stressed out in her cage but she needs more baths and medication and a good 2-300gms weight gain before she can go --no ticks on her today and she looks much better but it s a problem when hogs behave like this .The little maggotty man is doing well and now eating on his own and harry has gone back to be cared for by jacqui .LITT.LE DOT -- is as odd a s ever and w e are struggling to get her onto meat --she is extremely large for her age and we have seen this before i n hoglets --namely our star HOGRID who fooled everyone into thinking he was much older than he actually was .DOT IS JUST GETTING HER TEETH but looks like ahog which should have left her mum by now --pauline is abit frustrated by her -- but hogrid was just the same -- seems hoglets can be dwarfs or giants and please ge ti n touch if you have experience of this in hedgehogs Hogrid could not go to the wild as he just didnt develop any sort of fear of anything and we think dot maybe the same .

NAUGHTY CORNERS
Well we havent enough corners left for all our naughty hoglets -- the HORRORS have had to be split up as no one can cope with the mess they were making even cleaning them out three times a day wasnt enough --and one of our other little ones was bullying the one he shared a cage with and even though they were siblings it made no difference and the tiny one was losing out in abig way Rebecca has produced another seven ticks and had a second bath -- and dot is reluctantly sifting the milk from the meat but she is eating some of it .Little maggotty is doing really well .Sadly things with us are .s till very difficult so aploogies if you are trying to get hold of us or waiting for a reply --we just cant do it all at the moment

STRANGER AND STRANGER
now two of the horrors have joined the jeyes fluid appreciation society and went potty when the floor was washed today --also the tiniest most pathetic hog wehave had in ages --who we feared was being bullied has done an incredible escape job and popped out through the roof of the cage jumped off the work top and was sitting smugly under the freezer --he didnt have aname so he is now officially CALLED HOUDINI .Sadly tarkers didnt join in the jeyes love in as he isnt too well --nothing we can do but keep him clean and comfy and hope he picks up a bit .Little dot has started doing brown poo -- yes I know it s of no interest to anyone but pauline but that means she is eating some of the MEAT at last--hooray /.R ebecca hasnt had a tick appear today so wehope wehave finally got on top of them --she is on antibiotics to help her fight back against the effects of such a bad infestation --.

TUESDAY UPDATE
Little joe has ticks --serves him right for chasing girls of dubious reputation we reckon !Two of the horrors gone to bev for fattening up -- they arent called the horrors for nowt bev watch yer fingers .Little pal who ha s been with us a few months finally gone today and little magotty doubled her weight which is a fantastic result .Next to go has to be nelson a s he is grumpy and mucky and trashing the place every night we also think he could turn a bit nippy but with one eye missing and the other suspect w e need a safe garden .Rebecca finally seems to be tick free and looks much better and she seems to have settled down abit which is good news a s its awful to see them desperate to get out of the hutches .Tarkers ate all his tea last night so we hope it sjust the hot weather been making him a bit more dopey than usual and little squatter not been seen again for three nights so must have better pickings elsewhere ..Wendy has discovered yet another hog knitting pattern --good luck with that one !!and little dot is showing all the signs of turning into a right softie-- she is an oddity and came to us in odd circumstances and reminds us very much of hogrid in temperament --- can there be two hogs as daft in the world and can they both have found their way to us !!!!!

THURSDAY REPORT
hooray jus t had an offer of a soft release site for the final two horrors --thanks an n will sort it next week if wecan . No births or deaths overnight here --and tarquin managed with a run of the mill plate. Made a new discovery this week --pedigree chum loaf gives hogs the sxxxs so note to all concerned we darent use it again-- anybody know of a plasterer needing supplies in the wakefield area !!!Dot has moved in to the big girl cage now and has even been seen sucking the milk off the iams and spitting the biscuit out --well its a start-- next stop is a wooden hutch and no milk --the gloves are off girl --she is huge and daft but pauline loves her to bits .Very quiet in the rescue garden comet seating all wegive her as there is so little food around and squatter not been seen for two nights now --could be baby time there Please keep your water bowls filled up and if you have hogs please put food out --the youngsters are leaving mum now and are going to find it so hard this year ,We are still having huge family issues here so apologies to all who cant ge t us --it sbeen a very difficult time for us both and the miracle is that the rescue is still running at all -- thanks to all the kind people who support us --sorry that we seem to moan alot lately .Local news is that chantry vets in alverthorpe now do 24 hr care so anyone who has an injured hog take note -we are sorry but w ereally cant go out to calls at the moment.

Weekend Update- Wendy Plummer in charge but seems to be spending more time visiting wool shops eating cake and generally gadding about leaving tarquin and dot in charge. Pauline found yet another hedgehog pattern that we will probably never make and bex and lisa should know better than to lead Wendy astray

WHEN DOING NOWT IS THE RIGHT THING
We have had a call about five babies very very young --mum was disturbed while abit of gardening was going on but the houseowner has waited to see what happens and the mum has just come back --Hopefully she will just get back to looking after the babies or may even move them -- wisely no one touched the nest or babies so they have every chance of her settling down again --a bit of food and water not too close bymight help ,Of course it may not be like this and mum may leave the nest but the babies have afar better chance being with her and the odds higher for survival if we wait and see .Lets hope the houseowner sleep easily and mrs hog just get s on with it or we will be handfeeding round the clock .Mum would almost definitley have left them if the babies had been handled /moved etc so well done to the finders for doing the right thing --hope it s aquiet night for all in pontefract !!

BENNY HILL DAY
After running around like mad women out of an old benny hill show we have decided today is a writeoff !! HOGS /tip /garden centre /post office /mums / wool shop / washing out / vets for apick up --its all been too much and more than an ageing and demoralised body can stand so we are giving up and giving in and opening a dormouse rescue --at least there wont be many and they will sleep all day and night--and just as an insurance policy we are only taken stuffed toy dormice as wendy aint too fond of anything rodentlike .THE TIN HAT WAS finally put on when one lady was swigging echo falls spritzer in the garage and both were then spotted in a car park eating ice creams .The hedgehogs are disgusted and tarkers in on the phone to the R SPCA --so good luck there lad .So the weekend beckons with promises of more muck to clean ,more cages to scrub .weeds to be weeded and a huge list of TO DO ITEMS not being done .But there is hope!! even in this darkness ,as the new autumn 2013wools and patterns have been spotted today so a tleast we can go to bed tonight knowing that better times are just around the corner --hey ho !! PS TARKERS BEEN PUT ON HOLD BY THE RSPCA --TOLD HIM IT MIGHT BE ALONG WAIT AS THEY WONT COME OUT TO MAD POST IT NOTE WEARING WOMEN !!!

MAD WHO ME !!!
WENDY has arrived this morning to find a lady who ha s clearly lost the plot --what possessed said lady to cover herself in self adhesive labels with unflattering remarks on is yet to be discovered but it has to be noted that ball point pen does not go on over face cream --hence the need for the sticky labels and nasty red marks on the skin .One label placed cockeyed on head says --MUG in writing like a four year olds and FAT andSTUPID are placed elsewhwere This clearly deranged woman is insisiting on wearing them all day unless someone convinces her these obvious facts arent true .We would put a photo on but in view of facing recriminations from the goverment of posting obscene pics wehave decided not to do this .Now the roll of un used labels in the rescue drawer is very longand we fear she might resort to tippex next or permanent marker .Clearly this is not a good start to the day and help is needed--even if it is friday -- this is beyond the crCRUNCHIE antidote which is already in the fridge -- anyone seeing this mad woman please approach carefully and with a ginand tonic in each hand

GOODBYE TO NICKI
Our vet nurse nicki from castleview ha s been with us all the way and today she leaves for pastures new--she is an amazing nurse and spent hours helping with the really poorly hogs and giving advice .We will miss her so much but we are glad she has a new opportunity --.Nicki had an instinctive rapport with animals and such care for even our tiny hopeless cases Pauline was especially pleased when she looked after molly dog when she was so ill last year So goodbye nicki and w e are left in good hands with the team there but you really will be missed -- wendy pauline matt and mollydog

Emergency admission. 3 newborn babies less than 12 hours old, they weigh less than 16 grams and need 1ml of milk every 2 hours, day and night - poor Pauline. The chances aren't great but they're better with us than on their own. What daft mother has her babies under a car!?

BABY UPDATE
Sadly lost the smallest but he had a prem look about him and a high number of hoglets die in the first few hours of birth --so we have two --one is feeding a tiny amount and the other is fussing but they have livened up and have been huffing at me --We are on drops of milk every hour ish -- and the next few hours will be crucial .All toooften hoglets this young rarely survive away from mum and its huge task for us --with a poor outlook -- going to be along long night and w e are holding our breath .The hoglets ha dliterally been born just before they were found we can only assume mum had them under the car away from the rain and fled when the car started up--one baby still had the cord attached --and there wa s no choice but to move them from the tarmac-- two of the five died within minutes so lets hope we have the two strongest here .

Being optimistic and making up slightly more milk to get us through the night --also moved em back into intensive care -ie the trusty old boiler cupboard which has served as an incubator for the past five years to numerous birds and hoglets --just hope it can help these two pitiful little souls
