Look What Has Just Turned Up At My House

Got back to a phone message, a family in Barnton had found a little hedgehog out in the day - they have just dropped her off with me and I shall be taking over her to Claire at Wallasey tomorrow - meet Donut .

She is - have checked her over and found one tick which has been dealt with  and she is now in my spare zoozone with food, water and plenty of fleece to snuggle in .

She has eaten her second dish of food all up and her dish of biscuits and dried mealworms - she must have been hungry - she is tucked up under her fleece pieces with just her nose peeping out - my Nick has really taken to her and he couldn't believe how trusting she was when I was taking the tick off - you would really expect them to huff and pop at you but she didn't, once you have got your fingers right on the hold, they just sense that you are helping them - I know not all will be the same but to be able to help this little one is just so special x

Donut is staying the night as Nigel had to take the car - Claire asked me to weigh her - this is the result..............................

I am so bouncing at the moment - was going to take Donut to Claire's today until Auntie Alice turned up with two workmen who she has organised to change our old asbestos guttering and fascia board with new - Nigel is like a son to her and she knows things have been a little tight for us - cannot thank her enough, but anyway, waffling apart, leaves me stuck to get over to Wallasey - asked Claire if she would be OK for another couple of days and after giving her Donut's weight and being able to tell her that her poops are normal, she is piddling and eating well and no more ticks, she has asked if I would like to foster her until she reaches 500 grams and then release her.

Never thought I would be taking care of my first wildie and in some ways I am glad as there are so many babies coming into all the carers at the moment, it is nice to know that there will be a space for a poorly hog/hoglet who needs the specialised care they offer.

My plan is to get her to weight and then release her in Auntie Alice's garden - she has hoggies visiting and has food and water out for them and Nigel and I are going to get her a hoggie box for winter, in case one wants to stay cosy over winter. Her garden is ideal as not only does she have hogs visiting, she has plenty of shrubs and bushes and it opens onto what I would call scrub land - away from main roads and I know that Auntie Alice will continue to put food and water out.

I cannot begin to tell you how this whole experience is for me - I love my hogs and enjoy taking part in our APH rescues but these little guys just steal you - cannot put it into words how it feels but it is special, really special xx
