| Doing some more research into the best things to buy for hoggies -
Heat mats? For a Vivexotic VX36 viv, what's the best brand & size? So far I've only really looked at Habitat ones.
Thanks! x | |

| I don't use mats as my room is heated but I would recommend the habistat heat mats and mat stats as pictured above. | |

| I was debating whether I actually do need them, because it's usually quite warm & I have central heating. But the other night it got really cold so thought I best get one just in case | |

| That's what I use when I need them. During the colder months Puddin' always needs hers on, she tends to feel the cold quite a bit. Ernie Holt and Little Miss Daisy Splat have been fine without though :-)

| My house can get absolutely freezing in the colder months, we used to have just the old floorboards, lovely in the summer but a nightmare in the winter! Because I use zoozones at the moment, I sit a piece of melamine in between the bottom of the zoozone and whatever unit they sit on top of and then put the heatmat in between. This way it stops the heat escaping into the unit below Puddin' has actually put a bit of weight on recently, compared to when I first got her, so things may be different next time we have cold weather xoxox | |

| and i think it depends what your hog lives in...as i find the vivs keep heat in, and sometimes get condensation on the glass...!
where as the ZZ, heat can escape the top, i put a blanket or a towel on the top. | |

| Melody - Hopefully a bit of extra padding will keep Puddin' warm then With what it's been like recently, it's hard to decide if it's going to be boiling hot or freezing cold! tayer - I'm definitely going for a viv, will keep an eye out for the condensation once I get my hands on a hoglet suppose it's all about checking the temps and keeping an eye on them. | |

| i always have a finger sized gap each side of my viv doors for airflow and so it doesnt get too hot in there, still keeps heat in but keeps it at a nice temp..xx | |

| I will be using one the habistat heat mats and a pulse proportional thermostat when my little girl arrives. I have lots of them lying around due to the reptiles! I have used lots of different brands of heat mat and they are all pretty similar, make sure you get a good thermostat though, don't want temperatures going through the roof! | |

| The reptile room is lovely and warm- thistle is getting pride of place in our lounge though! I think it would be plenty warm enough but just in case I have stolen a mat and thermostat off the reptiles! | |

| Junior was/is meant to be going into the girls room when/if it's ever finished. Even though the girls room is the warmest room in the house, the temperature can drop dramatically during the winter nights. I bought a Habistat heatmat and thermostat for his home just to be safe. Having the theromostat monitoring things gives me a bit more peace of mind. I recently added a digital thermometer (under £4 from Amazon) so I have a constant, accurate reading of the zoozone's temperature, whatever way it goes - up (too high is dangerous and very easy in this crazy weather) or down. Bob's having the same arrangement in his viv. I'll be collecting his viv from Helen when we meet for Bob's hand-over. John's got Bob's mat, stat & thermometer in his room, waiting. I always say, when is doubt, err on the side of caution... | |

| Haha that's a very good philosophy Definitely will get the heat mat and thermo, just to be safe because I don't trust this weather either! Will also invest in an extra digital thermo now that you mention it, to be extra cautious. This house is very strange when it comes to temperatures - I've already been cold and too hot today in the space of a few of hours! Thanks for the advice! x | |
