Little road trip tonight over to Botley. Collected an underweight hog that has obviously come out of hibernation and is very dehydrated. He/she has been out during the daytime and was spotted by a lady who had just moved in. He/she has had a hefty amount of fluid injected and ticks removed so let's hope they survive the night.

Well it has been a busy old night here. Martha, Frank, Nutkins, Bourbon and Dave have all been released in outside enclosures to get them acclimatised for release. It has all gone well so far. Tiggles is officially a girl and has been given the all clear for parasites. She is putting on weight and I am slowly removing all the ticks from her

This is the after photo of Frank who had the nasty wound to the back of his head. It has healed fantastic and he is just waiting on the remains of the scab/gel to fall off. Will post another photo showing the wound before.

Call from our lovely neighbour to say there was a possible injured hog in his garden. Upon inspection it turned out to be one of my males that was released a few weeks back. Removed a few ticks, observed and checked him over, weighed him and send him on his way. Thanks Perry

Meet Rodger. He was rescued by a lovely family who had seen him out during the daytime being attacked by a crow! He has had fluid injections and some ticks removed. He is eating and fingers crossed for a clear faecal sample.

Bye bye Mildred. She walked across our path mid winter, thin, dehydrated, covered in ticks and full of parasites. She has just been released back to where she belongs. Best of luck girl

Poor old Tiggles has suffered terribly with ringworm. She has had the treatment and her skin is clearing up and there are nice new spikes coming through. She is up to release weight and once she has a full set of spikes back she will be able to be released.

Peggy was released back to the wild last night. She has gone to a ladies garden who has the most fantastic hedgehog houses and feeding stations. She has left a lot of the garden to turn wild so Peggy is going to have a fabulous life there. Hogs should always be returned to where they were found if it is safe enough to do so. Peggy was found in an area with lots of pet dogs and right on a main road so it just wasn't safe. Thank you to Wiltshire Wildlife Rescue who actually saved Peggy's life and to Amy who found her. 7 months, lots of parasites and not putting on weight etc Peggy has finally made it back

Baby Tumble is doing well. Very bright and alert and eating like a trooper. She is on mashed puppy meat with Cimicat. Very good appetite and putting on weight nicely. Huff is still very huffy. Has come out with a positive for capillaria eggs so treatment to be started on that and Tiggles had her toe nail cut tonight. Never had over grown toenails on one before but she didn't make any fuss with me cutting them.

Very nervous. Been to collect 4 babies and their Mum tonight. Their nest was disturbed during a shed clear out. In any normal circumstance you should leave them and not touch them. On this occasion it was not acceptable to leave them. Just got them back and it is a terrifying time reuniting a Mum and her babies as they can either carry on like normal, dis own them in which case they would have to be hand reared or she will kill them. Nervously waiting to see what happens.

Meet Herbie. He is only 64g. When he was brought in yesterday morning he was very cold and dehydrated and his body was going into collapse. The very kind lady donated some money and a hot water bottle. He has been on rehydration fluids and heat and has made it through the night. He is not out of the woods yet. I will keep you posted on him.

Just been asked about the babies. Here is mum just outside the nest taking a little break. All seems to be well with them but I can't disturb them so won't know just yet how it has all panned out for the family. Updates coming soon

We are over flowing here with young hogs. Are any of you lot local to New Milton and would be interested in being trained up to care for a couple of hogs? I am currently awaiting a date from the British Hedgehog Preservation Society for their next rehabilitator and first aid course. The course is in Gloucestershire but is only 1 day long. It was fantastic and I learnt so much. You also get a look behind the scenes at Vale Wildlife Hospital which in itself is a real treat. Let me know your thoughts.

Fundraising request - running a hedgehog rescue is very expensive. I currently self fund the rescue with some donations. There are a lot of costs involved including food, vets bills, other medications and specialist items, the extra water and electric bills to keep kettles boiling, heat pads running and washing at least two loads of towels each day. On top of that my phone bill has increased as I have to make calls plenty of calls when rescuing hogs and the petrol costs to travel to collect them. If any of you lovely lot would like to do any fundraising or donate any food/money you would be helping me more than you would believe. I have no issue paying for all this as I know it is for a great cause but would be very appreciative for any help Smile many thanks

Mum and 5 babies just in from a garden disturbance. Thanks to the quick thinking of the finder babies and Mum were safely removed from the dangers of the diggers. Mum about to be re-introduced to her bubs.
