| We currently have 15 hedgehogs here at the moment of various ages and with a variety of problems. Although this is a small number compared to some other bigger rescues we are still finding it difficult to fund the basics that are needed during the hedgehogs daily care. I don't like to ask as I know everyone is struggling but we are desperate for any donations in the Torridge area of newspapers, kitchen rolls, and cat food (meaty flavours not fish in jelly or supermeat or poultry flavour biscuits) Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks very much | |

| If you see a hedgehog (if it's a small hoglet check the area for more) lying out during the day in the sun please don't wait to help and hope that it will wander off. Please, Please, place it in a box and contact a vet or phone a rescue centre asap. A sick or injured hedgehog will attract flies who'll lay eggs on moist areas like wounds. When these eggs hatch into maggots they will enter eyes, ears and mouths etc and the end result is horrific!! Many hedgehogs that need help are dehydrated at the moment so the sooner they receive that help the better. PLEASE REMEMBER A SICK OR INJURED HEDGEHOG DOESN'T HAVE THE LUXURY OF TIME IT NEEDS HELP NOW! Sadly the little hoglet that came in yesterday was left too long without the help it needed and passed away not long after it arrived, such a waste of a little life | |

| Fantastic news if anyone has donations for the hedgehogs of meaty not fishy flavour tinned (supermeat or jelly) or biscuit cat food, kitchen rolls and newspapers Torbridge Vet Group has very kindly offered to have collection points at their Bideford hospital or Torrington branch for us. We're so grateful for any help that anyone can offer and having a couple of collection points hopefully will make it alot easier for everyone. If you are able to drop off anything please mark it for Torridge Hedgehog Rescue. Thanks everyone and a big thanks again to Torbridge vets | |

| If you find a small hedgehog out during the day or you're worried about one in your garden please please don't leave it and hope that it'll be ok, place it in a box and keep it warm then get in touch with a local rescue for advice and help or take to a vet asap NOT the next day as a few hours can be the difference between life and death. Now that the nights are getting colder it's harder for them to find a good source of their natural food. There are alot of juvenile hedgehogs around at the moment that unless they receive help will perish. | |

He was extremely cold and had been lying in a garden all night in the pouring rain. He was close to death but now look at him after 24 hours in a heated pen and having rehydration fluids, medication and special food. It's still early days but I'm so pleased for him

Three more releases planned for Sunday one in Torrington and Chunk should be ready to go home to Landkey he's also taking an orphan friend with him too, and two others should be moving into outside pre-release pens today. | [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]It's been a bit of a battle so far with this little boy, he managed to get so dehydrated before he was found that his kidneys may well have suffered, time will tell. He's been given antibiotics and medication by the vet and all the handfeeding and tlc that I can give but it's down to him now to see if he can fight hard enough to overcome all the problems he has. Fingers crossed for him this is a picture of one of the few times he's managed to eat for himself. Not sure why they always have to sit right in the food bowl to eat

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]This is the second tiny Autumn baby that came in last Friday. He had very swollen feet most likely due to being caught up in something like garden netting, was extremely stressed and covered in ticks. He's starting to feed for himself now and his legs and feet are almost back to normal. | |
