A large hedgehog has just come into Prickles after he was found in a carrier bag in a closed garage. He was hibernating but couldn't stay where he was. He is now awake and will stay with us until the weather warms up.

There is nothing in the wild for him at the moment!

A hog was picked up yesterday afternoon but it was so poorly it went straight to the vets where Colin put it to sleep! Sometimes when our driver picks up a hog it is clear nothing can be done!

These little hogs know where the food should be.....! I have two feeding stations in the garden with cameras running on both! I am putting food/water in one of them at the moment as we haven't had any hogs in the garden this year! A Hedgehog arrived at the feeding station with no food last night and spent 5 minutes looking for it! Luckily the penny dropped and it ran over to the feeding station with food and had a good meal! Hedgehogs will return to feeding stations year after if there is a regular supply! Welcome back little hog!

Six more hogs leaving Prickles today, the plan was to give hogspital a coat of paint when the hundreds of hogs were released!! That was until a female was admitted yesterday who could be pregnant! She has lungworm but from now until the end of the autumn all mature females that come into Prickles are put in our mum and baby room, known as the maternity suite!! These mums like it to be calm and quiet.

The plan was to decorate hogspital at the end of the week but now the 38 hibernating hedgehogs have awoken and are due back in hogspital! Oh well decorating when they have been released!!!

A hedgehog admitted today with a very chesty cough, lungworm! Treatment is underway! He came from Frome, from the same garden that Fromey was released a couple of days ago!

Another busy day at Prickles an induction training session for new volunteers this morning, 12 were released, one came in from hibernation and Vicky bought her overwinter hog in to be released with two other hogs! Oh and half of hogspital was given a well needed coat of paint and deep clean! I am sure we will hear Crispians take on this soon!! Thank you to the volunteers who helped today!

Prickles up to now has been registered as a small charity with the HMRC! I am pleased to say we have been accepted as a charity with the Charity Commission, this is good news for us as it opens up more opportunities for applying for Grants, Just Giving etc! We are expecting our new charity number next week!

One of our released hogs was found under a fruit bush yesterday afternoon. Nothing wrong with him apart from having difficulty adjusting to the wild. I have put him in our outdoor enclosure and will check him daily! He will remain there for a week and then we will hopefully release him again.

A hedgehog is on its way to us, out all morning and is possibly dragging a back leg. Doesn't sound good but we will know more when it arrives!

Not a good day today at Prickles, we lost the two hedgehogs that were admitted on Friday, one was pts this afternoon, it had a puncture wound to its face and we think it had a ruptured sinus and the other was really poorly with severe infestation of worms and infection! Horrid when we lose them!
