Only four of the over winter crew left to release and they are going on Monday! Hogspital has a number of poorly hogs with coccidia, lungworm, intestinal worms and possibly pregnant and one recovering with wounds after getting trapped but they are all responding to treatment!

Three admissions so far today! A very poorly boy who needed to spend 6 hours in the incubator, he has just gone on a heat pad! Two females one out this afternoon she is under assessment and the other was caught in netting but is ok!

The poorly boy who came in yesterday has a heavy worm infestation, I have just given him more fluids but he is eating and drinking and is under treatment. The girl who was caught in netting was released and the other female who came in yesterday has had food and water, I have no idea what is going on with her!

Just got back from a rescue, little hog 453 appeared in a garden this afternoon, small and thin and some dried blood on him. No obvious injuries but have given fluids and a covering anti biotic, poo under the scope tomorrow! Oh and a ulcer/wound on his man bits, bless him!

A hog admitted today with a eye injury and the other eye was filled with blood, the vet has removed one eye and we are hopeful the other one will recover, a head injury we think? A hog went to the vets today as he was throwing his head back to eat, vet removed two decayed teeth, bless him he had toothache.

Little juvenile who was collapsed when he came in but he has just recovered!! Bless him on a defrost in the incubator!!!

Another juvenile admitted this morning, we all know its May and we would usually be expecting hoglets in this time of year but we are admitting juveniles who are about 3 months old. These usually come into hedgehog rescue centres in Autumn, Why? The winter was mild up to March an a number of hedgehogs didn't hibernate and had very early litters during February!!! It then went cold in March and the little ones struggled and now they are being found out in the day heavy worm infestations and cold. Forget the Spring we have reverted back to our autumn juvenile worming treatment plan. We anticipate hoglets to be late and will start arriving during June. Think it is fair to say the weather is taking its toll. Poor hogs.

Bank holiday weekend you may be gardening and come across a female hedgehog with babies. Hedgehogs are good mums but when scared they may run away from the nest and they don't always return. If mum runs off please keep a watchful eye for a few hours, if she doesn't return give Prickles a call for advice 07806744772.

The little hedgehog we admitted yesterday is making a good recovery and the hog who had two teeth removed in the week is happily crunching on chicken flavour cat biscuits!!

Thought it was a little strange no call outs during a Bank Holiday weekend and then two admissions since 9.30pm, one with a worm infestation and the other has just been attacked by a dog! They say things come in threes, watch this space!!!

The hedgehog who was admitted last night following a dog attack looks a lot better this morning. He was in a bad way when he arrived two puncture wounds to the head and nose! Still a slight bloody nose but he is now breathing with his mouth closed and he has had some food and water!

We have a large boy who came in two days ago, our first thorny headed worm under the scope today! Horrid thing so glad we used levacide on the hog as it is dead! Photo to follow!!!!

New admission today a little female weighing 500 grams, she has a congested nose we think there may be a tooth problem! She is under assessment!

A new admission today a little female hedgehog who has a back leg missing we think previously amputated and was covered in mites, she also has ringworm! Then a call out to Axbridge, the finder heard a funny noise from the shrubs, we found a hog in a fantastic nest we think she had hoglets with her so we left well alone.

Three admissions today all boys two with ringworm and dehydrated and the other one has two wounds from a dog attack!

Prickles also has three hogs in with Thorny Headed Worm!! Do you think the spread of these horrid has been made worse by last years floods?

Fourth admission of the day a juvenile is on its way in after being scooped out of a pond! Incubator on as it is v cold!

Now we all know Prickles is a rescue centre for poorly, injured or orphaned hedgehogs but hogspital is like emergency ward 10!!!! We have hogs in with dog bites, ringworm, thorny headed worm, lungworm, intestinal worm, coccidia, an exhausted hog who was pulled out of a pond, one with a bad eye and one with three legs! They are all responding to treatment, what a complex bunch!!!

Just done the early morning rounds in hogspital, some of the hogs require fluid therapy and it is warm so I have topped up their water bowls!

Two admission today so far, a female in who we think has been knocked by a car. She is under assessment and a little juvenile, male, who appeared in a garden at 11.00am. He is under assessment but we suspect worms.

First time in a week, the hogs are stable in hogspital!!

A hog is due in first thing from Yeovil, it was picked up after being found on a pavement yesterday!

Four hedgehogs admitted today so far, one of them off to the vets, she weighs over a kg and is uncomfortable, she was running around this morning, time for a scan!!!
