Some part of the "every hog needs a home" that my husband got at the exotic pet awareness day from some of you on here must have worked Very Happy

I appear to have brought this little guy home!

First hoggie :D E1c3dj
First hoggie :D O89ked

He's 18 months old, and was advertised as salt and pepper although from what I've read he seems too brown? He's only got 3 legs due to his mum chewing one off when he was little but he doesn't let it stop him.

We only got him today, he's quite huffy with me although clearly very curious! I've ordered a bonding pouch and he'll be having a t-shirt to sleep with tomorrow. At the moment he is hiding in a rainbow coloured fluffy tube. I appreciate this is a bit in the deep end for my first hog, but I wanted to home one that would be overlooked tbh and I do have experience with other exotics and of course there is the help available here Smile

He also needs a name, so any help with that appreciated - I may have to divorce the husband if he keeps suggesting Sonic!

Tripod lol!

Well he deffo isn't a Salt and Pepper as we can't get them here ... he looks more like a Algerian Grey possibly chocolate hard to tell from those pictures ...... has he got mottling on his feet and tail ..?

Bonding bags are great ... it takes time to build up a bond with a older hog .. but he will soon learn to trust you .. another tip is just give him mealies when he comes out ... for holding as he will put the holding and the treats together ...I never put them free load into the vivs or cages as i use it as a bargaining tool .. t shirt is great .. when you are freshing his food and water through the day talk to me so he gets use to the sound of your voice , i would also put him in the noisy part of your house so he can get use to the everyday sounds .... this will stop him being jumpy . He is lovely and congrats deffo liking the name Tripod ...x

That is easy enough, there isn't a quiet part of our house! Laughing

I like Tripod but I'd feel a bit mean Very Happy

I thought chocolate maybe, I can't see any mottling but I haven't had the best look yet - don't want to scare him. He already seems less huffy today so I'm hoping he'll be alright with me. His previous owner did say that he was very friendly some days but standoffish on others!

Regular handling and talking to him treating him often when he comes out .... you will soon start to see a improvement ....

Just had his first freerange, albeit a little one on the sofa - he actually is considerably better when he is out Smile
