Introduction to glop, baby cat biscuits through a sieve mixed with esbilac!!! This is the little hoglet we reared from birth, 104 grams!

A large male has just been admitted from Weston with a large open wound to his side! Maggots had hatched but they may have done the poor lad a favour in keeping the wound clean! Wound cleaned up, pain relief and anti biotic given. He is now tucked up with lots of yummy things to eat! Fingers crossed he will be ok!

The boy who came in with the nasty wound had surgery this morning, a good clean out and repair of the wound, thanx Colin! He is making steady progress. A little juvie came in this morning cold, injured and dehydrated. She has lost an eye through trauma to the side of her face! She is on meds and continues to be under assessment! HRH now weighs 127 grams is on sloppy babycat biscuits and is lapping well. She is three weeks old tomorrow and I am taking her out of the incubator. She will be going into a crate with a heat pad a food!! Time to grow up!

HRH has left the incubator!!!! She is weighing in at 127 grams and is currently sprawled out on a heat pad, photos to follow! We are proud at Prickles that we have hand reared a hoglet from birth, without colostrum! Thank you June for your dedication and commitment. x

HRH, Her Royal Hogness!!!!!!

A new admission yesterday, early evening, a 173 gram hoglet was found running along a path! He is lively, we suspect worms but he is under assessment!

A new admission last night, a large hog with severe breathing difficulties, nebuliser for him!

HRH has been poorly during the last 24 hours, her appetite went and she was starting to become dehydrated. Then I remembered her mum had lungworm, I took a chance and wormed her. I did a sample under the scope six hours later and low and behold two dead lungworm larvae!! She has bounced back and is now feeding really well and gaining weight!!!!

Litter of four have arrived from Bow nr Crediton! The maggots have been taken off using F10 and anti biotic given! The litter range from 71 - 93 grams! Fingers crossed! X

What a day!!!! It started at 1.00am a hog that had been attacked by a dog! The adult female was picked up this morning, thankfully no visible injuries but she is under assessment! A hoglet that was found yesterday came to us this morning! Sterling work Chris!!! We think she has lungworm but we are waiting for her to get bigger before starting treatment! She is being hand fed every three hours! A large boy was admitted with a large mass on his shoulder tumour/abscess we are not sure! Operation next Tuesday! This afternoon saw another weaned hoglet admitted and then a hour ago the finder had found another so they have been reunited! HRH well what can I say she is thriving and is in the papers today and had a photo shoot this morning!!! Oh and we released one to Frome!!! Busy times and the night is still young! A new admission to Prickles this evening a young adult who has been caught in netting today! He looks ok but is under assessment!

A little one on its way in that was found sleeping next to a garden broom. Bless, think it has lost mum, hopefully we will help it feel safe and give it a heat pad and a fleece to sleep in!

Hoglet admitted lunchtime 110 grams front bottom teeth just through! Hand feeding! A call just in another hoglet that is being picked up in the morning!

four admissions today, two from the same garden both attacked by dogs! They are traumatised but should be ok! A large boy was found submerged in a foul drain smelly, cold and wet! He spent some time in the incubator, he is now in a heat pad, has had food and is on antibiotics! A little female weighing 182 grams was found walking along a path, over 30 ticks removed, worming treatment underway. She is up eating!

Sadly one of the hedgehogs attacked by the dogs died today! It must've sustained internal injuries! We are monitoring its litter mate closely! Poor thing.

A quick update, Prickles is caring for 63 hedgehogs of which 4 have wounds that are being bathed and treated with cream twice a day. 45 are going through treatment for lungworm. 6 are hoglets that we hope will reach the safe hibernation weight of 650 grams. The remainder are poorly adults with a number of ailments. They are all responding to treatment and in time we see no reason why they shouldn't all be released back to the wild.

Two admissions yesterday within a hour of one another. Both juvies that were found wandering around gardens early evening. Now we are moving into autumn we are worming all hogs on arrival. Lungworm is rife this time of year!

A call out this morning from Cheddar a hoglet stuck in a wall. I pulled her out looked around the garden found the nest with mum and three others. She was fine so she was reunited! Then a neighbour came out saying she had a baby hedgehog in her garden! Checked it over it looked the same as its litters mate so I put her back in the nest! They had fallen down a step and couldn't get back to the nest! We built a ramp, gave advise on feeding etc and left the family to sleep for the day!
A hour later a call two juvies sleeping on a lawn in Yeovil they are on there way to us!

Just got back from the vets, a boy we released a week ago came in after getting caught in garden netting. It was still wrapped around his leg with the worse infestation of fly eggs I have ever seen. It is currently having a anaesthetic and I am waiting for a call from the vets! Please remove any garden netting where hedgehogs can get them self caught up, it is lethal!

The hog has spent the night at the veterinary hospital having masses of fly eggs removed! The netting had caused two cuts one to his neck and one to his leg! His leg appears swollen but ok! We await further news!

A juvenile was admitted midnight, sadly he was too poorly and died during the night!

We have visiting hedgehogs in the garden most nights! I have three cameras set up, two on the feeding stations and one across the lawn. For the past week the hogs have been spending hours foraging on the lawn! I have never observed them do this before and then it dawned on me, leatherjackets!!!!!! Yum yum if you are a hog!

Three hedgehogs have been to the vets today to have their wounds checked! All three are responding to treatment and the wounds are healing beautifully. Sandra your large boy has a abscess on his tooth so is having the tooth out tomorrow! Bless him, it hasn't decreased his appetite though!!!
