We are trying to raise awareness about hedgehogs through documenting a small number of the rescues that come into us, sometimes hoglets, sometimes releases other times bad news stories with a message.
This is exactly one of the latter. This hedgehog has just been admitted & although an otherwise perfectly healthy hedgehog it has one major issue. A badly fractured jaw & snout.
This will undoubtedly have been a gardening / gardening work

A very quick update on the surviving hoglet from the litter of six, hours old hoglets admitted last week.
This little hoglet the only survivor was the smallest of the litter of hours old sub 20gram hoglets and if we have had to pick one of the litter that was the least likely to survive we would probably have said this one as the smallest and least active.
As fate would have it the more lively ones of the litter were the ones that we lost first and

Morning feeding all done, little one now named Tiny is now 25g gaining, Stan and Olly are coming on leaps and bounds at 190g Olly and 167 Stan. The weights seem to mimic the ordinal pair. Popey has again come back with a slight eye infection, we thought we had beat this. All the other hogs are doing well.

Have to say thank you to Miss V W. Thank you for the milk re placer, we are going though this quite quickly. Baby hog will start off with just 0.5ml then as our two fatties will progress to 10ml every feed. once there will start to have mash and not puree food (need teeth for this) but will still have MR added.

Please if you are in the garden take care, watch the long grass, compost heap and bushes. It only takes a few minutes to check. It could save a life. Leave ground level water and some food under an upturned plastic tub.

Two hogs will be moved outside ready for their release later in the week. Little Tiny is now 40g, still way to small for his age but Tiny is still with us. Need to start looking at gardens again and secure ones. A little behind with this important job

Here's some positive news: A garden that one of our volunteers went to visit a while ago, phoned to tell me they had put a feeding station in, made holes bigger, made a hog home and guess what. Its worked, she now has regular visitors eating her food and even displayed some explicit behavior I could not possibly discuss on here ;-) She would still like to be a release site in the future.

We have got home from work to another box, another caddy for a car. These caddys are great as its a top opening so any injured Hedgehog can be placed in gentley, This time we have an address on the paper work so a thank you note on the way out tomorrow. Little Tiny is 50g now,,

Its with the sadist of heart that little Tiny died a few days ago. We couldn't post as it was just too upsetting for us. Rescuing any animal has it heartaches and joys.

Please its dry and hot again. WATER is needed for all wild aniamlas. Ground level for hedgehogs and other small animals is a must. This was one of our small displays yesterday. As you can see a small feeding station made from a small upturn plastic storage box. 4" hole x 4" a bowl of water and some food. Cost £2.00 benefit to a hedgehog priceless

Woundwort has come back today so we can finally release him. He has a slightly deformed foot but it doesnt seem to stop him from running off. Popeye will be booked into the vet next week now his weight has improved. Olly and Stan our two older hoglets/Juv are now both around 400g but still not eating solids properly . The 4 new inmates, whoops hoglets have all put some weight on, I think i have managed to get all maggots. fingers crossed.
