| First feed finished with and the fun starts. They have started to come out of their bobble hat during feeding and move around. They have started to lap and lick spilt replacement milk (not dairy). I love them at this stage just before the hand blending of food begins. | |

We are being asked about the progress of the litter of two hoglets here at Willows Hedgehog Rescue now so here is another short video. They are feeding a lot better now, infact as the title suggests they are now very keen for their food guzzling it down which is easier than having to coax them to feed. On the flip side you do have to monitor that they don't over eat.As can be seen in the video update, although not exactly stable on their legs they are a lot more mobile now and are starting to like to explore their surroundings. At the moment they are still blind & deaf and their eyes will open at around 12-14 days. At that stage they will start to have some solid food blended into their milk replacer with the milk replacer content being reduced slowly until they are fully weaned.. | |

| Another hog has left us. This male was constantly wormed through out winter. We had a major fight with him and every time we thought we had won, he would fall ill again. Today he hasleft looking a completely new hog. | |

| Nori the male that left early. His finders not only left us a wonderful cash donation but she had a collection at work and gave us quite a bit of dog and cat food. Then to top it all off she also gave Charlie and i a box of Jelly sweet. Guess who opened them first. nom nom[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| Update: we think we have finally beaten Popeyes bad eye infection. This hog was found with his eye hanging out of his socket. The vet removed it but he then developed a major infection we have been battling for weeks. Once he is over all of this he will need the rest of his back leg removed. He has also gone over the 400g mark so fingers cross he is winning...[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

| On top of every thing else i will be doing today, tomorrow and Saturday i will now be hand feeding less then day old hoglets. At the moment we have 6 and i say at the moment as they are all around the 17g mark that just over a £2 coin in weight. At this age they are very hard to feed and the laws of nature normally one would die in the nest in the first few days. | We are starting to get a little worried here. We have not seen Dan Dan for a few days now and there is no poo on the patio. He is a very old hog but last week when we saw him he looked healthy running around and sniffing about. As I am up tonight will go looking. | |

| that my night time feed over, Charlie taking the first feed at 6 ish so i can sleep in for a while. all 6 are still with us, although Mr Blue wondered off out of the bobble hat and was at the back of the incubator all on his own. He is back with the rest again with a full belly. | |

| If you do happen to stumble on a hedgehog nest please do not touch, remove babies or mother. cover and walk away. Watch from a distance to check mom has not bolted. If in doubt phone first for advice. It could save the hoglets without the intervention of us big people. You have no idea how much time is needed to hand rare one hoglet let alone several families. | |

| Popeye is putting weight on and is now over 450g, well on the way to recovery. He will still need his op to remove his stump. Mira still needs to build strength she is eating and drinking on her own but the left hand side is still weak. Cassi will be going into an outside pen along with Hagred shortly. Ready for their big release back to freedom. Another male will also be leaving with one other male still recovering but going in the right direction. | |

| Have to say a massive thank you to Sue who has helped me today with all the prep for tomorrow. I may cancel Sunday due to the little ones. Tomorrow the hoglets can not go with us unless we can get an electric hook up. Its a good job i will be 5 mins away to keep coming home. | |

| we have some good and sad news. The sad. Two of the hoglets didnt make it and we lost them this afternoon. the four are ok but one is still a little shaky. The good. sitting wrapping the teddies for tomorrows even who should walk down the path. You can not imagine the smile on my face. Dan dan swiftyly received a pick up, weigh and a vit jab. He is looking very old with his little pink nose now. So pleased to see him. | |

| Being a hedgehog carer at times is one of the hardest jobs you can wish for. Another of the hoglets have died, with another looking not good. The simple truth is we will never be good as mom when they come in at just 17g. After they survived the first night we thought we may be in with a chance but how the tied has turned so quickly and so cruel | |

| the last surviving hoglet has put 1.5g on the first real weight gain. The two older hoglets are now both around the 150g. The hog that came in yesterday during road show sadly died in the night. Was completely collapsed by the evening. In these cases, its heat, fluids and any appropriate meds in this case worm treatment. Four more hogs ready to go... | |
